NT Liftec

NT Liftec is a provider of transportation systems for a wide range of industries including ports and terminals. NT Liftec is also a provider of cassette systems, which is a transport system used for loading cargo on a palette for pick up and transportation by a lifting trailer (or translifter). The Liftec Cassette System offers improved safety, cost effectiveness and high transport efficiency, thus improving production flexibility and optimisation through the whole value chain.

Our team has a rooted history with NT Liftec, a global key player in our industry. We have worked with the brand in various capacities since 2004. Our partnership dates back even further to the days when our Managing Director, Garrick Hickman, was purchasing millions of pounds of equipment for Exxtor and ABP. Over the years, Hickman Engineering grew our relationship with NT Liftec based on a mutual respect and passion for innovation.

Our Work for NT Liftec:

As UK and Ireland agents & official suppliers of labour based repairs and component supply, Hickman Engineering holds the only imprest and import duty free stock in the UK. With this in mind, we supply NT Liftec with genuine precision components on a carriage/import charge free movement from Finland and Poland.

We also perform maintenance throughout the UK and Ireland acting under warranty, performing complex procedures which are often safety critical. Our work with NT Liftec also covers the maintenance of various fleets of translifter trailers on site at DFDS Seaways, C.Ro Ports, ABP Hull & Liberty Steel in Rotherham.

During our time working with NT Liftec we have also been tasked with commissioning many new Translifers and maintaining warranty repairs including DP World London Gateway & Tilbury Docks.

When components are unavailable without a long lead time we have developed skills and expertise to provide comprehensive, reactive and emergency repairs to critical components including bogey lift frames and sub axles. We often carry out on site removal of defective and damaged components, delivering them to our in-house team of engineers for comprehensive fabrication and machining work. We pride ourselves on renovating components by restoring them back to NT Liftec tolerances and build quality. This removes the need to replace the components with new parts.

For components that are beyond economical repair, we hold the only imprest stock in the UK for NT Liftec parts as their trusted UK agent. We have monthly stock orders that allow us to import the items from Finland & Poland, carriage and tax free.

Previous work for NT Liftec:

  • Electrical redesigns and development
  • Major repairs to damaged equipment, including collision and terrain based damage.
  • Regular servicing and daily maintenance of a fleet of Translifters for five different companies.

Translifters can endure severe wear and tear with heavy use. Richard Ladlow, who heads up our Liftec presence in the local steel industry, works closely with Liberty Steel where their translifters regularly undergo rigorous service. He works to prevent structural damage and other issues using bespoke maintenance plans and strict daily checks.

Regular routine maintenance can provide real value to our clients such as Harsco Environmental, who use NT Liftec Translifters, and all members of our team are fully trained to perform maintenance and repairs to Liftec equipment. Dave Smith, our Parts Manager, is always on hand for expert parts advice.

Hickman Engineering have provided specialised services to NT Liftec since we were established in 2004, providing immediate response that could not otherwise be achieved with NT Liftec being a Finnish company. Since working with the brand our engineers have become skilled with all translifters including the LTH90 translifter and the LTH130 Translifer.

Previous Projects with NT Liftec:

DP World London Gateway

When DP World London Gateway received their order of ten brand new NT Liftec LTH 70 Translifters, they chose Hickman Engineering to conduct all final modifications and parameter checks needed to commission the units into use.

DP World London Gateway is the most advanced deep-sea port in the UK. When the port required a system that would allow them to transport containers between the automatic stacking cranes and rail head, as well as between the customs inspection area and adjacent logistics park, the NT Liftec cassette system was the perfect solution.

Only 18 Translifters are required to keep a total of 200 cassettes moving, allowing containers to be decoupled at different transfer points. The port has been able to reduce the number of equipment required in the cassette system by using the most advanced equipment supplied by NT Liftec, prepared and serviced by Hickman Engineering. The use of minimal equipment enables the port to reduce fuel consumption, CO2, service costs and capital investment costs.

DP World London Gateway’s delivery scope for 2013 was 10 LTH70 Translifters and 115 cassettes for container handling. Their 2016 delivery scope was 8 LTH70 Translifters and 84 cassettes. Hickman Engineering was responsible for the installation of all of these units into DP World London Gateway.

We also undertook control of the delivery, safe unpacking and assembly of 84 NT Liftec cassettes. Each unit came in a flat pack kit containing seven separate fabrications which were then aligned, bolted and fabricated together. This required a large area and an orchestrated organisation of forklift operatives, as well as cooperation from our skilled workforce. It was a very time-constrained job but proved to be very rewarding for all involved.

Liberty Steel, Rotherham

After many years of reactive repairs and maintenance to a fleet of NT Liftec Translifters on site at Liberty Steel, Rotherham, we were approached to design, implement and maintain a service contract which saw us take over the full-time maintenance on site of the fleet of NT Liftec Translifters and the Terberg terminal tractors on site.

This contract has been successfully developed into an operation which alleviates the pains and inconveniences associated with routine maintenance and preventative repairs.
